This month’s theme, Restoration Begins With REST, lines up perfectly with recent insight God has provided about the season we are currently in and the season we are stepping into as believers. To start, let’s look and what a testimony and tiding really are.
Dictionary.com defines testimony as 1. Law . the statement or declaration of a witness under oath or affirmation, usually in court. 2. evidence in support of a fact or statement; proof. 3. open declaration or profession, as of faith. Tiding is defined by Merriam-Webster.com as a piece of news. So, today I will present evidence and share news about rest in the current and coming seasons.
And they overcame him [the accuser] by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. – Revelation 12:11
The War to Rest
In 2 Chronicles 20 a battle is recounted wherein King Jehoshaphat was facing multiple enemies at once. I know I speak for many when I say that’s what it feels like life is like much of the time! Yet, when the King sought God, God responded through Jahaziel the priest: “You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!’ Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the Lord is with you.” (2 Chronicles 20:17). I believe we are in a season such as this. In fact, many worship current anthems testify to this concept…
Surrounded ( Fight My Battles ) by Elyssa Smith goes like this… “It may look like I’m surrounded but I’m surrounded by You. Nothing is as strong as Your blood! This is how I fight my battle, Right here at the table, Your blood and Your body has overcome!”
Defender by Rita Springer goes like this… “You go before I know, That You’ve gone to win my war, You come back with the head of my enemy, You come back and You call it my victory. All I did was praise, All I did was worship, All I did was bow down, All I did was stay still.”
When facing multiple enemies, God’s strategy was rest! It was to stand still and see the salvation of the Lord!
The Good Tiding
After hearing this directive from Jahaziel, the people bowed down and worshiped God. Jehoshaphat even assigned specific individuals to lead the army out. Their job was to sing and praise. When was the last time this was our response to resistance, a challenge, or an outright attack? By the way, scripture tells us that when it came to the multitude of enemies that threatened the people, no one escaped (v24).
Here’s the good news, there is still plenty of time in 2018 to see victory and gain a position of rest, plenty of time to allow God to finish His good work for the year. In that, ask God where you may need to lead the way with praise and stillness and watch as He facilitates completion, peace, and victory.
A few months ago God began to hint and what 2019 would bring. He led me to one specific verse which gave an exact list for what (I believe) believers can expect:
When Jehoshaphat and his people came to take their spoil, they found much among them, including equipment, garments, and valuable things which they took for themselves, more than they could carry away; so much that they spent three days gathering the spoil. – 2 Chronicles 20:25
I believe this list of spoils spells out much of what we can specifically expect in the coming season. God is going to provide natural and supernatural equipment for his people in the forms of training, tools, and technologies. The Lord is covering the wounded with healing garments and placing destiny mantles on those who have come through the sanctification of the current season purified and powerful. Finally, God is releasing inheritance at new levels. Believers will begin to possess the valuable things intended for them: relationships, resources, and revelation.
So, as we head into the Christmas season, rest in God’s 2018 work and prepare for what’s prepared to be released in 2019 as God Himself accomplishes the restoration of all things.
Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before, whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began. – Acts 3:19-21
